Korea Travel Tips for First-Time Visitors: Everything You Need to Know
Transport, money, language, food & how to get around — the complete guide
Visiting Korea for the first time? This guide covers everything you need to know — transport, money, language basics, food, and how to get around the country comfortably. Plus the one tip most first-timers wish they’d known: send your luggage ahead and experience Korea hands-free.
Transport in Korea
T-money card: Buy at any convenience store or airport — top up and use on all subways, buses, and taxis across Korea. Kakao T app: Korea’s main ride-hailing app (works like Uber). KTX: Korea’s high-speed train connects Seoul to Busan in 2.5 hours. Book at korail.com or through the Korail app.
Money & Payments
Korea is largely cashless — almost everywhere accepts cards including taxis. Carry ₩50,000–₩100,000 in cash for street food and smaller vendors. ATMs that accept foreign cards are in convenience stores (GS25, CU, 7-Eleven) — these are the most reliable for international withdrawals.
Language Tips
Hangul (the Korean alphabet) can be learned in 2 hours and will make your trip significantly easier for reading menus, street signs, and transit maps. Download Naver Translate or Papago app — both are better than Google Translate for Korean. Most major tourist areas have English signage.
Managing Luggage in Korea
Korea’s subway system is excellent but not luggage-friendly. Plan your trip using hotel-to-hotel luggage delivery so you’re never dragging bags through the metro. We offer same-day delivery across Seoul and next-day delivery anywhere in Korea — book via WhatsApp or KakaoTalk in English, Japanese, or Chinese.
