When Seoul gets wet

Seoul receives about 1,418 mm of rain a year, and more than half falls in July and August: the 1991–2020 averages are 414 mm in July and 348 mm in August, with rain on about 13 days in July (Korea Meteorological Administration normals). Summer downpours are often short and heavy, but spring and autumn showers catch visitors out too — November still averages around 51 mm.

  • Why a sturdier umbrella: cheap emergency umbrellas tend to flip in gusty weather between high-rise buildings and on bridges. A 16-rib or windproof umbrella lasts the whole trip.
  • When a raincoat beats an umbrella: cycling along the Han River, Nami Island and other day trips, theme parks and outdoor events where you need both hands free.
  • Shoe covers save your sneakers. Silicone covers stretch over white trainers and roll up into a pocket; zip-up covers with grip soles are better on wet stone paths and stairs.
  • Local etiquette: many buildings have plastic umbrella-bag stands or umbrella dryers at the entrance — use them. More in Korea Rainy Season: 5 Umbrella Rules Locals Never Break.

Plan one evening ahead

Because rain gear arrives the day after you pay, the best moment to message us is the evening you first see rain in the forecast for the coming days — not the morning it starts. Travelling as a group or with children? We can bundle several raincoats in mixed adult and kids’ sizes, plus an umbrella for each person, into one delivery under a single check-in name, so everyone is ready before the first downpour.

How to order in 3 steps

  1. WhatsApp us the kit, how many people, raincoat size, hotel name and check-in name.
  2. Confirm and prepay by card payment link or PayPal; we send the USD total and product photos first.
  3. Collect at the front desk the next day (orders paid by 10:00 PM KST).

FAQ — umbrellas and raincoats in Seoul

Can you deliver an umbrella today?

No. Orders paid by 10:00 PM KST arrive the next day. For rain right now, convenience stores almost always have basic umbrellas; we are the better option for planned rainy days and longer trips.

Can I bring the umbrella home on the plane?

Rules depend on your airline and airport security. Long umbrellas usually go in checked luggage; check your airline’s rules if you want to carry one on.

What if the umbrella breaks?

Defects are handled under the selling store’s return policy and we help you with the claim. Our service fee is non-refundable.

Do you deliver to Airbnbs and guesthouses?

Yes, with the full address and your host’s cooperation. Hotels hold parcels under your check-in name; some refuse parcels that arrive before check-in, so we confirm your dates first.

Are you a Korean shopping mall?

No. Unboxing Korea (Hana For You, business registration 326-46-01326) is an independent service that orders from Korean online stores such as Coupang for travelers without a Korean phone number or card. We are not affiliated with any store.
