Why your hair tool from home may not work in Korea
Korea’s mains power is 220V, 60Hz with round two-pin Type C/F sockets. The US and Canada use 120V, Taiwan 110V and Japan 100V. A plug adapter makes the plug fit but does not change the voltage, so a 100–120V-only straightener or curling iron can overheat, scorch hair or fail on the first use. Look at the label: if it says 100–240V you only need a plug adapter (see our Korea plug adapter delivery page); if it says 110V or 120V only, leave it unplugged.
Heat tools draw far more power than phone chargers, and small travel voltage converters often cannot handle them safely. For a short trip, a Korean 220V tool is usually simpler and cheaper than a heavy converter. The catch: a 220V-only tool will not work back home in a 100–120V country. That is why we also offer dual-voltage minis, which Korean listings mark as “free volt” (프리볼트).
Local tips for hair in Seoul
- Humidity: Korea’s rainy season usually runs from late June into July, and summer air is sticky. A straightener with ceramic plates and a light serum helps fight frizz — read our Korea rainy season guide for the rest of your kit.
- Winter static: December to February is cold and dry indoors with floor heating, so lower heat settings and a heat protectant go a long way.
- Hotel dryers: most Seoul hotels have a basic dryer in the room, but straighteners and curling irons are rarely provided. Ask the front desk before ordering a dryer.
- Packing home: see our Korea packing tips for what to leave behind next time.
How to order in 3 steps
- 1. Message us on WhatsApp: which tool, your hair length, whether you want to use it at home afterwards, your hotel name, and the name and dates on your booking.
- 2. Confirm and pay — we send the exact model, its voltage label and the price in USD. Pay 100% upfront by card payment link or PayPal.
- 3. Collect at the front desk the next day under your check-in name. Hotels can refuse parcels before check-in, so we confirm your dates first; for Airbnbs we coordinate with your host.
FAQ — Hair tools on 220V
Can I use my US hair straightener in Korea with an adapter?
Only if its label says dual voltage, such as 100–240V. An adapter changes the plug shape, not the voltage, so a 120V-only tool can be damaged on Korea’s 220V.
Will a Korean straightener work when I get home?
A 220V-only model will not work properly in 100–120V countries. Choose our dual-voltage travel mini if you want to keep using it.
Can you deliver a curling iron today?
No. Order and pay by 10 PM (KST) and it arrives at your hotel front desk the next day.
What if the model I want is sold out?
We suggest a similar model first and only order once you agree.
Can I return it?
The service fee is non-refundable. The tool follows the return policy of the Korean store it was bought from; used heat tools are often not returnable.
Who are you?
Unboxing Korea (Hana For You, business registration 326-46-01326). We order on your behalf from Korean online stores such as Coupang and are not affiliated with any store.
