Do you need an adapter in Korea? Check your country
South Korea runs on 220V, 60Hz and uses Type C and Type F sockets (national standard KS C 8305). Source: Mains electricity by country, Wikipedia.
| Coming from | Home plug / voltage | What you need in Korea |
|---|---|---|
| USA, Canada | Type A/B, 120V | Adapter; check every device says 100–240V |
| Japan | Type A/B, 100V | Adapter; 100V-only appliances must not be used |
| Taiwan | Type A/B, 110V | Adapter; check the voltage label |
| Mainland China | Type A/I, 220V | Adapter for the plug shape; voltage is the same |
| UK, Hong Kong | Type G, 230V / 220V | Adapter for the plug shape |
| Australia | Type I, 230V | Adapter for the plug shape |
| Most of continental Europe | Type C/F, 230V | Usually nothing — your plugs fit |
Adapter vs converter: the mistake that burns hair tools
A plug adapter only changes the shape of the plug. It does not change the voltage. Phone, camera and laptop chargers are almost always rated 100–240V, so an adapter is all they need. Hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons from the US, Japan or Taiwan are often 100–120V only and can overheat or fail on 220V. Rather than carrying a heavy converter, many travelers buy a Korean 220V tool for the trip — see our hair straightener and dryer delivery page. If you only lost the charger itself, our phone charger kits already come with a Korean plug.
Some hotels lend adapters at the front desk, but they often run out, so ask on arrival. For more first-trip basics, read things to know before visiting Korea and our Korea packing tips.
How to order in 3 steps
- 1. Message us on WhatsApp: which country your plugs are from, how many devices, your hotel name, and the name and dates on your booking.
- 2. Confirm and pay — we send the exact adapter and price in USD. Pay 100% upfront by card payment link or PayPal.
- 3. Collect at the front desk the next day under your check-in name. Hotels can refuse parcels before check-in, so we confirm your dates first; for Airbnbs we coordinate with your host.
FAQ — Korea plug adapters
What plug type does Korea use?
Type C and Type F, the round two-pin plugs, at 220V and 60Hz.
Does a plug adapter convert 110V to 220V?
No. An adapter changes the plug shape only. Check that your device says 100–240V before plugging it in.
Can I use my American or Japanese hair straightener in Korea?
Only if its label says dual voltage (for example 100–240V). A 100–120V-only tool can be damaged on 220V, even with an adapter.
Can you deliver an adapter tonight?
No. Order and pay by 10 PM (KST) and it reaches your hotel front desk the next day.
What if it is out of stock, or I want to return it?
We suggest an equivalent first and only order once you agree. The service fee is non-refundable; the product follows the Korean store’s return policy.
Who are you?
