Flying home? Power bank rules from Korean airports

Power banks are lithium-ion batteries, so airlines treat them strictly. Korea’s transport ministry tightened the rules again in 2026 (source: Korea JoongAng Daily, 8 April 2026, reporting the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport):

  • Cabin only. Power banks may not go in checked luggage. Keep them on you.
  • Up to 100Wh needs no approval. 100–160Wh needs advance airline approval. Over 160Wh is not allowed.
  • Maximum two power banks per person on flights from Korean airports and on Korean carriers from 20 April 2026 (the old limit was five).
  • No use on board: you cannot charge your phone from a power bank, or charge the power bank itself, during the flight.
  • Not in the overhead bin. Carry it in a sealed bag or with the terminals covered by insulating tape or a sticker.

Rules can differ by airline and by the country you fly into, so check your airline before you pack. To convert capacity yourself: Wh = mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1,000. A 20,000mAh bank is about 74Wh, well inside the limit; you would need roughly 27,000mAh to reach 100Wh. For bag weights and sizes per airline, see our Incheon Airport baggage allowance table.

Why travelers run out of battery in Seoul

Seoul days are phone-heavy: Naver Map or Kakao Map for walking routes, Papago for menus, QR menus and table ordering in restaurants, and transit cards on your phone. Cold winter days drain batteries faster, and summer heat makes phones throttle. A 10,000mAh bank gives most phones about two extra charges. Our Korea packing guide covers what else is worth buying locally.

How to order in 3 steps

  • 1. Message us on WhatsApp: your phone model, preferred capacity, hotel name, and the name and dates on your booking.
  • 2. Confirm and pay — we send the exact model, its Wh rating and the price in USD. Pay 100% upfront by card payment link or PayPal.
  • 3. Collect at the front desk the next day under your check-in name. Hotels can refuse parcels before check-in, so we confirm your dates first; for Airbnbs we coordinate with your host.

FAQ — Power banks in Seoul

Can I take a power bank bought in Korea on my flight home?

Yes, in your carry-on. Models up to 100Wh need no approval, you may bring up to two on flights from Korea, and you cannot use them on board. All our options are 74Wh or less.

How many watt-hours is a 20,000mAh power bank?

About 74Wh (20,000 × 3.7 ÷ 1,000). The exact figure is printed on the label, and we send it to you before you pay.

Can you deliver a power bank today?

No. Order and pay by 10 PM (KST) and it arrives at your hotel front desk the next day.

What if the model is sold out?

We suggest an equivalent with the same or lower Wh rating and only order once you agree.

Can I return it?

The service fee is non-refundable. The power bank follows the return policy of the Korean store it was bought from.

Who are you?

Unboxing Korea (Hana For You, business registration 326-46-01326). We order on your behalf from Korean online stores such as Coupang, which usually require a Korean phone number and payment, and we are not affiliated with any store.

Other things travelers forget: see everything we deliver to Seoul hotels, or get a Korea plug adapter for your own chargers.
